too much is never enough
Hi Trev,
I would suggest like for like if possible as most are readily available. Only reason I say this is that I had a TRW pump on mine and replaced it with what I thought was exactly the same looking pump. It turned out to be a Thompson pump which I eventually got to fit. Was a nightmare though, I had to change the pulley, adapt the mounting bracket and also put an adapter on the outlet that changed the seat profile so that the hose would seal properly.... Was a nightmare so would suggest like for like if you can. I will post some pics up when I get home for you and if you need a pump and are struggling locally, Richard at Stateside Autos usually has them in stock.
Cheers Steve

Mine was like that, there should be a bit of play but only a bit. Think its to allow some fluid to get to the end of the shaft or something. Mine was knocking like hell! Will have access to my laptop tomw so will stick a few pics etc on for you. One thing though, even if you get a new pump you will probably have to reuse the pulley.... Whatever you do, dont use a puller on the belt groove or you will bucklle it. Pull it from the centre groove using a proper puller. Ive got one you can bprrow if you need it and pulleys can be very hard to find. If you do find one, it will probably be warped aswell.
Also, the reservoir seal in those kits are crrap as they are normally o ring type and too narrow for the groove they sit in. I used a local company who recommended a square profile seal and a thinner back up seal to fill the rest of the groove to prevent the main one moving when the reservoir is pressed on.
Finally, when you vhange the pulley over, DONT hammer it on! Take it to a local back street engineering company... My local one pressed mine on properly for a fiver. You will end up wrecking the pulley and the pump if you take a hammer to it!!
Good luck and will do pics for you tomw,
Cheers Steve

had another set in 2009 £ 17.95

both were different part numbers , but same seals etc
prolly different suppliers
found a recept , from clemont for a fan belt £10 , remembering that was a emergence that day in 2009

the second set were'nt cause the seals were no good , was having trouble with a rebuilt steering box & had two rebuilt pumps , but later housings , then decided to rebuild my original pump , but thought there was a problem , but was the rebuilt steering box all along at fault , so put the rebuilt pump in old housing , but , had too much end float for my liking , i'm getting conufesd now any way !!

Hi Trev,
as promised, a couple of pics that will help you to not make the same mistake as me!
couple of pics of the different seats inside the pump outlet and couple of the adapter I used to change one to the other so I could use my new pump......lot of hassle that could have been solved by just buying/ sourcing the correct like for like replacement!
Cheers Steve
PS this only relates to the TRW pumps which appear very similar to the Thompson. Think the Saginaw has an oval filler neck but I may be wrong
