Picked the car up today, only a little drive from the trailer to my house (couple of hundred yards) but it felt good to be back behind the wheel of some proper muscle, now the work must begin!

Stroker motor still in there complete with tunnel ram, Terry didn't know much about the motor other than he thinks it's 12.5 to 1 comp & mechanical cam. I'll be having the valve covers off as they leak badly at the moment so I'll try & stick a degree wheel on it & work out what cam it's got, if anyone knows any history about the engine & trans that would be cool. Obviously I know about the rest of it!

My old motor came from Graham Ellis via Ricky Garrett. He told me it had a crane .590 cam, i couldn't find it in the crane catalogue, so i put a dial gauge on the retainer and turned the motor over to measure the lift and it turned out to be .670 lift.
Was he running octane booster, or race fuel in it Rob ?

He was using octane booster, is this that engine? If it is I'll speak to Graham see what he remembers about it.

no its not rob ,the engine came in from the states via jerry smith,i was mixing race fuel and unleaded ,will run ok on optimax just dont give it the beans or she will pink big time

has all crane ductile steel rocker gear ,it had been freshened up before jerry got it, aparently run 10s in a lightweight race coronet best time i got was 11.2 but the demon weighs 1.5 tonne,could do with going on a diet,dale has moulds i think,blue would be able to tell you more as he took a mould off of your bonnet

Sorry Rob, i went off track there, i was refering to my old lump because of how i measured the cam and i thought the link with Graham might interest you, it wasn't my intention to hijack the thread.
I think you've bought a real nice car there, with a lot of potential, the Demon is one of my favourite A bodies.

Update, sold a few bits & pieces that I won't be using, ripped out some of the excess wiring, sorted out some elecrical issues so that now the lights, wipers, horn all work as they should. Changed the intake so that I have been able to re-fit the factory hoodscoop. The headers are having the cracks repaired & some tabs added to help prevent them cracking again. While the intake was off I checked out the cam, it's a .590, 312 duration, just about right for towing & the odd trip down the shops then.

Work on the car has been a bit sporadic but I've now got some new wiring terminals & a repro bulkhead connector, unfortunately the terminals are very slightly different & required a bit of modifying to enable them to work as intended.

The one on the left has been modified to work properly

Repro bulkhead connector looks good, just got to route & loom tape it all up.

My mate Tony still had the original back seat in his barn, I thought I'd see if I could cut it about & make it fit around the wheel tubs, never did like the purple velour it came with.

The mice & sun have rotted the cover a bit & I noticed that there was something underneath!

The original covers! Shame Terry threw away the front seat. I've cut quite a bit out of the back of the seat but I think with a bit of creativity it will go back in, then a bit of a re-cover & make up a parcel shelf to Bananarama! off.
