I managed to find a way to fit the base without the spacer, just need to find a 90 deg fuel fitting for the carb that's all, even clears the coil where it is.
I fired it up last night to make sure the intake was air tight and it ran very nice, warmed it up and checked the AFRs on the meter and they had leaned out a little bit. Very snappy response off the throttle tho :thumbright:

Regarding the 90 degree fitting - is it AN -6AN you require?

I`m no expert but I think Dave is right about the air and it has certainly worked for me .. I know you can`t do it with your hood but I have done these things with my pick up truck.

1 - Stop " hot bridging " between engine block and carb with a plastic or phenolic spacer.

2 - Get the filter right out of the engine bay as high as possible and use a filter top.

3 - Seal the underside of the filter so only " outdoor air " can enter.

4 - Get a scoop with a high level intake and smooth passage over and behind filter so pressurised cold air is available at all sides and top of filter

Slippery slope Ad .. spare hood with scoop / spare filter etc etc ;)

Yeah I think so Pete, just for the fuel inlet fitting to the float bowl on an AFB.
I been thinking about buying stock from one of the manufacturers of pipe fittings and retailing them thru work..... any thoughts?

Earl's Hose ate only at Silverstone, I spoke to a guy there a couple of months back, a lot of the fuel fittings are the same as we use for commercial oil and kerosene heating systems.
I was shocked at the price of the stuff on websites, sure I can do better and shift some stock ;)

Thanks Pete for the offer, same for you Unkie :thumbright:

That cold air box of Jons looks really well thought out, keeps the hot air away from the filter and carb nicely.

I remember seeing ram air systems on 442's, Firebirds and GTO's, not to mention the famous ones on Mach 1's, but they're all based on flat hoods.

Ade, backing up Pete and Dave's points on whether air can be of a ram effect so low to the bonnet, I read a lengthy article on this the other night that suggests not. The article was on whether there is any point in activating the dummy air scoops on a '73 Roadrunner bulge hood. No point by all accounts.

Drew ...my car didnt go any faster with the scoops open, that i noticed...but there was always hope...
but as has been said they are too low to drag in the cold outside air at speed

I did notice that under hood temps were down a bit though...that helps

hence the new AAR type hood being made
