Are these '3rd members' more readily available in the UK, and cross compatable across all 8.75's?Dave wrote:Yes Dr Diff is a good supplier.
The "3rd-member" you need that he refers to is what you call the "pumpkin and gears". So yes you will need to source those seperatly.
Any idea Dunc?

Have also Emailed Dr Diff to see what the cost of shipping will be........

Green Bearing Company builds a bearing kit that replaces the cone-type wheel bearings. These are sealed roller bearing units that do not require end play adjustment, however they offer no side to side support, and fail quickly in street applications. These are drag race bearings only (the manufacturer even lists them under the “Racing” segment of their catalog). Green Part No. RP400.

found this on A Bodies Only =
So from the above statement and from the posts i've looked at it seems most people have no issues, and the green bearing (sealed bearing by other names), is now on most modern cars. For A Bodies Only wrote:I kept encountering opposing opinions on whether the Green 8-3/4 axle bearing were suitable for street use. So I wrote to Bearing Technologies Ltd. to get the story directly from the source.
So here's the scoop:
The question is whether or not the RP400 bearing kit for Mopar 8-3/4" axles is suitable for street car applications. There has been a lot of discussion that since your catalog lists it under "Racing" that racing is the only application. Some have also said that the RP400 doesn't have enough lateral retention for street use. Others have said that they have several thousand miles of street use with the RP400s in their axles and have encountered no problem. Can you clear up the issue for me?
Dear XXXXXXXXX,
I received your question about the RP400. I'll try to answer this to the best of my ability. The original intent of the RP400 designed by the Green Bearing Company was meant as a replacement for the original taper bearings in the rear end of Chrysler / Mopar applications. It was made for street vehicles, as were all of Green's automotive bearings. Over time these products became favorites of custom axle manufacturers such as Moser Engineering, Strange Engineering and Mark Williams Enterprises. Green, being a job shop, manufactured a multitude of bearings for these outfits and started categorizing them as "Racing" bearings due to the fact that the products were becoming popular in that application.
There are a lot of these bearings on the road in both street applications as well as on track applications. As far as performance, all I can say is that these have been a staple in our product line with no revisions / issues for a long time. The experts on the performance of the product in various applications would be Moser or Strange. If you would like to contact them, you have to ask specifically for the RP400 with the fixed flange because there is a modified version (MO400) which was designed by request for Moser and has a slide over flange with a snap ring retainer.
You can visit www.moserengineering.com or call 260-726-6689 for more information.
Thank you for your interest in our products.
Best Regards.
Hmmmmmm.....Will look a little deeper at it!

Blimey... Planning time Dave. I agree with the others, don't take it to far. Else they turn into big projects. I try to keep them so If needs be I can get it running asap.... Only one I took right back was Billy's old beetle. Just a shell. Then I ordered all new panels, even doors. Biggest mistake I ever made, those new beetle panels dont fit!
On the SBP and the LBP front.... There are quite a lot of SBP wheels over here for sale. Seen some real nice ones lately. But shipping is a killer. Unless one of ypu blokes buy my Fury, and load the container and car up with spares.

Have spoken to Mr Fenton today as sending it by UPS is a no go........(i asked out of interest and knew it would cost....more than the diff itself).MilesnMiles wrote:$350 to drop in and go!!! Bargain, best get onto Mr Fenton, Dave.
Very good price on shipping, so will be using him for whatever i buy!!
At the mo, going by what has been stated i recon the axle, shipped and landed will be about £650. Just got to pay the man on top of that!
Have to say the $350 job sounds good, but at the mo would happily buy the rebuilt one. Cass (Dr Diff) has also been very helpful with info via email!
Just a shame that a lump of metal costs so much.........
