Re-chroming Plastic

Post by adrianp »

Hi,

The front armrest bases on the '66 are looking a little scratched and tired. I can get a new repro pair from B/E&A for $100USD but wanted to see if anyone had any local contacts or experience with companies for re-chroming the plastic originals.

So far I've found a few companies that might be worth a call:

cheers,

adrian.

Mine were worn on the top so I swapped them over left to right so the perfect chrome on the bottom was now on the top on the opposite side.....depends how good you want it but mine now look fine.....depends if yours are the same both sides....I would imagine they are (economy of scale etc as they say!)

Thanks for that though Steve. I didn't realise you could do that as I haven't ripped them off yet. I think I'll take both off and see if that's do-able.

The finish on mine are a little strange as well. The repros I've seen have a very chrome like finish:

Where as mine are very dull, almost a brushed aluminium effect. And the way the finish is worn, it's almost like a painted finish being scratched off. So now I'm even thinking of just a respray to give them a little more life.

I didnt realise till I took mine off to look at getting them done aswell. Both fronts on mine are the same and interchangeable, as are the back ones, but shorter than the fronts..... Has kept mine original and saved me a few quid aswell!

Good luck mate

PS the ones on the link are tbe same as mine so they should swap over if needed
