2K primer question

I've been offered what sounds like a good deal on a '68 charger but it means buying it in 2K primer, the seller reckons it'll be ok if it gets wet, is this true and how long can I leave it outside without risking the bodywork rusting (my garage is full of bits of pickup so it would have to live outside). also approximately how much is a decent paint job, would I be able to get it done for 1K or 2K, I don't expect show finish, just decent enough to make look good.

yes, it is. Gonna have it if all goes to plan. Minus the flash wheels and final paint but with full MOT and delivered

Good for you. I miss having a motor on the road. Ill just have to pull me finger oot me thinks and get on with the body work on my 770.

Something sounding alarms there and I really hope Im wrong.
I assume you will take a look at the car before you bid?

To answer your question, no you cant leave it in the rain. It will absorb water to some degree, which will cause havoc later once painted. No real way of knowing how much though.

with paint and the flash alloys it goes way over my budget

, as it is, in primer with standard steels its affordable and driveable complete with full MOT. I'm having some pics emailed, I just don't have the time to travel down to Romford. spoke to the guy on the phone and he seems genuine

Listen to uncle Roger, Rebel. Even though it's a two pack primer, it's still hygroscopic and will absorb water and my suggestion would be get it into a dry aired place as soon as possible or get it painted, even if it's just a ground coat.

Big point here though, if it has been wet, make sure it's 100% bone dry or you'll get microblistering when the moisture tries to come back up through the top coat.

thanx Ivor, I'm trying to finish the garage extension so I can try and fit as many cars in as I can, if I don't finish in time I'll see what I can sort out for dry storage until painted

not sure if we have crossed wires here CP, there are two chargers on ebag at present. the one with a starting price of 12K is not the one I'm going for (although I did bid on it originally) it's the grey primered one starting at 7K that I'm chasing

thanx for the offer guy's, but, the deal on the primered charger wasn't completed. I bought the one pictured in my avatar instead
