Fender tag.......

Post by Dave81 »

Probably know the answer to this already, but is there anyway to try and decipher what a car came fro the factory as without the fender tag. I've not checked the rear seat yet but think it would be a miracle for it to be there!

This is all lead from the color.

I know Ma Mopar changed color shades through the years. In 72 B1 was Baby Powder Blue. B3 was Petty colored and its too light for any year of B5.

The car fro inside the doors looks like a silvery type of blue. I'd go as far as to say that its very close to a 68/69 B3 blue (called Bahama blue). From my research this shade was last offered in 70!

Anyway..........Any ideas

I may have got the wrong end of the stick, but are you confusing the "Fender Tag" (the steel plate mounted on the Drivers side inner Fender) with the "Build, or Broadcast Sheet" which there can be several - usually under a seat but possibly under the dash?

Sorry if i sound like i am insulting you, but you can learn a lot from the Fender Tag and it is much more likely to be present than the Build sheet..............

Sorry Pete, did'nt explain it well.

Fender tag in engine bay is long gone! How do i find out what the car left the factory with (options etc) without it?

Not checked the rear for the broadcast sheet, but very much doubt its there! :thumbright:

Dave, at least have a look under the seat. Only takes a couple of minutes. Mine was in my Dart after all those years.

You don't know till you look Dave. !!!!!
There were quite a few used along the production line ( about 12 ?)
They poked them in all sorts of places. Under seats. Behind dash. In headlining etc.

Dave , I read some where recently that if you contact Chrysler in the US with your chassis number requesting a broadcast sheet, they will send you a duplicate. Will do some digging and firm that up a bit.....

Pity you havent got the tag...Ive recently done mine via several websites and found the build date, trim option level, plant etc etc. You will also get some details from the vin on the drivers side dash top if you have one

Cheers Steve :read2:

Sometimes there can be as many as 5 Broadcast sheets in one car, so if you do find one, please keep looking, there could be more.

They do not always match the car they are found in due to how the assembly lines at the plant were run.

It is very common to find a sheet for a different model of the same car. I have also heard of Challenger sheets in Cuda's and vice versa.

Places to look are;

Taped to the back side / top of the glove box insert.
Under the front bucket seats in the springs
Inside the bucket seat backs
Under the rear seat bottom
In the rear seat back.
Under the package tray(speaker shelf)
Under the carpet

Just as Dave said, I found two, the correct one and an incorrect one, same body line but for a 318 Satellite!

Fortunatly the correct one is in better condition and more legible.

Cheers Chaps,:D

Already decoded the Vin number so know where and when it was built.

Its really the options i'm looking for and more importantly the bloody color code!

Thanks for the link Steve.......Will try that if all else fails! :thumbright:

All locations duly noted Dave, will spend an hour or 2 scouring the car over the holidays!

Much Appreciated all......... :thumbright:
