727 Info
Hi hope someone can help with a little info, before I go knees deep in and strip my 727 box down. I removed it yesterday to replace gaskets filter and seals. But once out I noticed that the output shaft seems to have a lot of sideways movement, is this right and does the prop yoke hold it in position, or is there a bearing or bush that should hold this shaft in position. Also the inner input shaft seems to have a reasonable amount of movement is this normal, or again a bearing or bush failure.

Go here and download a service manual if you dont already have one.

Something like the '66 Plymouth has the 727 in it.
The output shaft on the 904/727 has a bearing at about the middle of the extension housing, I think there is also a bush just inside the yoke oil seal that keeps the movement less than what you are seeing without the yoke in place.
I think you will also see tolerances in the manual for input shaft end play. This is dependant on the thrust washers if I remember correctly.
The manual should tell you what you need to know, so please read it before you believe what I just wrote as I am just going from memory.
