Cant help but notice all my lovely new greasable bits are largely full of blue grease. Historically the grease I have used just looks like, well, grease. You know - slippery and beige.

Any thoughts on this ? Is there a difference other than looking cool and marketing ? Before I load up the grease gun thought I'd canvas opinions.

Come on chaps, what do you pump into your greasenipples ?

Sounds like it may be a dye used as a tracer for production use ie for fluorescence detector / uv . or camera system.

All the MOOGy bits are pumped full'o'blue - so maybe thats a sign. Seems to be marine grease - waterproof applications from what I can see. Looks cool, so maybe thats as good a reason as any.

Mopar multi mileage lubricant

thats what was specified for the orginal balljoints and the vast majority of front end lubrication jobs on a 60s/70s mopar

original balljoints were metal on metal joints metal ball mounted in a metal socket with the back welded or crimped on. a none pull through design

modern equivelent is metal ball in plastic socket joints which is what many of the modern cars use i.e sealed for life design in most cases with the ability to grease to make em look like the orginals for replacement parts
so you can still follow the workshop manual schedule to the letter should you desire

so i guess the blue stuff is just a modern equivelent used by OEMs for their big contract stuff hence the replacement parts for old cars get it as well
