If highlighting my bump and the fact that this can happen means that people take action and keep themselves safe, then I am more than happy with that.

Pete is right accidents can and do happen, a properly built cage (like in Pete's dart) can dramatically increase the chances of walking away if the worst happens, build the car as safe as possible from the start, don't take things for granted and don't think 'it won't happen to me', we all put a lot of money into these cars, and if your trying to go fast why scrimp on the safety aspects?

I thought he said this was a street car and only running on the track occasionally.

To me it is down to how fast the car would run on the track. I didn't see anything about the speed it would do?

Unless it is a 10 second car or faster I think a cage is a complete waste of time.

It looks like your evil twin is back.

My first post was about the strength a simple cage would impart to the "chassis"; that is just good engineering for either street or track....Of course , if you have insight in to which of the occasional track runs you will have an accident, then all the better....

sorry i meant on the T45 tube, think its abut 1.6 to 2mm, saves a lot on weight, compared to the 2.6mm on cds tube

So you think I should fit a roll cage in my Corvette because I run up the track at the Nats once a year?

I am all for chassis strength. Which is why I always recommend chassis connectors and torque boxes to people.

He started off by saying he Wanted to put in a roll cage for his car. It may well be for looks other than speed related. I made the error of thinking it was speed related.

That being said, if I were going to the hassle of installing a roll cage, I would go the extra effort & make sure it was certifiable.

At least if the owner or new owner wanted to go faster, they wouldn't have to worry about the cage being up to the job or easier to upgrade to the next level.

I agree if it's a Plodder, there would be better things to do, but if that's what they want, that's their choice.

Then again, as the poster hasn't commented since 1st posting, maybe they have gone off the idea

Well I am putting a full cage in the Alfa before we go down South again. Just to be sure.
Because I know it is a damn sight more dangerous driving in Surrey than driving up the strip at Santa Pod once a year.

Yeah I just realised the cage would get in the way of the dozen (something like that) air bags these Giuliettas have.

Well here's what i've done so far, what do you guys reckon? Its always been in the back of my mind whether or not I should be fitting one as I'm far from a drag racer, but went with it anyway. I'm going to bolt it in so if it becomes a pain in the arse then it can be easily taken out and yes I know it doesn't comply with any regulations either.
