Knebworth Festival of Transport - June 16th

Post by RobTwin »

Opted for the easy option last weekend, with Knebworth being only a few miles down the A1. Bit more ££ to get in compared to Billing but using both cars, we saved a bunch on petrol :)

Despite the grand title of 'Festival Of Transport' it attracted the usual mix of cars & bikes as it did in previous years of being 'Fathers Day Cars In The Park', but I'm happy mooching around a few classic British & European cars instead of the usual suspects up at Billing ;)

Nice to see Pete & Julie turn up tho, putting a few miles on the freshly rebuilt Bee 8-)

Good showing of Capri's too. If you like that sort of thing :) Quite a few 3000E's and other nice MkI's - 34 in total.
Including the ACTUAL 'Capri Ghia' Del Boy used to 'own'. Available for weddings etc, apparently. Check out the interior

Anyhoo, some pics...

Great photo quality as ever there, Rob!

We must have arrived late as we did not see half of the vehicles in the pictures - I would have been drooling over the Vincent and the Bentlry for sure!!!!

Great pics, is it just me that thinks the rear lights on the Lancia look like an afterthought?

Thanks for posting

Anorak alert :D

Delboys Capri-Ghia isn't the original one, the original Capri that Boycey sold him was a MKII, Delboy "spruced it up" and it turned into a MKIII. A bit like the Minder Capri that kept changing throughout the series,

Hi Duncan.
No the Bee is not in-boarded.
Stock '69 A12 Dana - they may be a year-only width, not sure; but the first of the 35 spline Dana on a passenger car.

On Superstock springs with only 8.5" Wide wheels on standard ARE off-sets. 12" x 29.5" Mickeys.

I tried the 10" ARE's but they protruded too far and would have fouled the Arches on bumps...........

Thanks Pete, yes that was a nice Vincent (arent they all?).
Not being a bike-person, I hadnt heard of a 'Morini' but the '3½' made me laugh. Dunno what it refers to but it just looked odd to me

As for the Bentley tho - it was spotless. Looked as if it had been finished that morning. And it possibly had... Stu said the tax disc said it was a Rolls Royce. So probably a bit of a 'kit car'. Nice kit car tho :)

Yes that Golf was sweet :) Great attention to detail. And the owner looked to be only in his mid-late 20's. He said he has the original wheels that he sometimes uses, as the mood takes him. And he puts the suspension back to the std height to suit 8-)

your fury lookin good twinster,
Dunc - whether it was a GL or Ghia, I wouldn't have remember before seeing the car (but I can see now it's not a Ghia), but I do remember Del Boy calling it the 'Capri-Ghia' (Capri pronounced with the emphasis on the Cap).

Cant remember the storyline exactly, or how the car came to be in the series, but the car I saw was definitely the one that was used in the series. I've checked a few pics online just to be sure meself and there's too many little details the same on this one that were on the car in the show and the car that was up for sale earlier this year, being sold as the genuine item, to not be one and the same. So there :P

It's definitely the car that was used in the series, there are pics all over the net showing the same reg number being used on the set of the program. The MKII that was in the show was only used as the car that Boycey sold to Delboy and wasn't actually filmed at any other time. The one in your pic is an "S" model and was sold by MGM motors for £400 after the series ended, now valued at between £20,000 and £24,000.
The Capri appeared in the story line because Raquel was pregnant and didn't want to travel in the Reliant. :D
