I thought I would do my usual tour of the carpark then watch a bit of racing.....3 hrs later I was walking to the stands....heard a crash and racing came to a standstill....just my luck! Great day though (Sat) and nice seeing Birdman and his wife, Guy and Cathy, and Gibbo.....

Cheers Steve :thumbright:

We had a great weekend, got there thursday afternoon and left on Monday morning. The car was taken off the trailer thursday evening when I noticed an slight oil leak from the back of the oil pressure gauge which meant I had to pop home on Friday morning to pick up a couple of new olives for the plastic line, with this and a small water leak from the bottom hose sorted it was time to run. The track opened at about one and after being scrutinered I was one of the few that ventured out that afternoon. After the issues I had last year with all the vibrations and rear steering I was going to be happy if the car got to the other end of the strip. Well I got what I was after, a totally drama free run. I had another run about twenty mins later and again just drove away from the line as I was having a few issues with a large flatspot just off idle, which would kill my 60' times  again no issues nice and straight. Although when I got back to the pits I did notice a small amount of oil around the base of the dizzy, this was cleaned up and after checking tyres, topping back up with fuel and a cup of coffee off for another run.
Another strong burn out I pulled into stage this time I let the motor idle and waited for the lights, the lights worked there way down the tree as the
final amber flashed on I hit the pedal and released the brake and the car started to react and move forward. Then the motor died, Bananarama! flatspot the car rolled forward about 15-20 feet whilst I got the shifter back into neutral so I could restart the engine, it started straight away and i selected first gear and feed the throttle in up to about 2500 rpm where I nailed it again across the line nice and straight this time at just under 116mph.
When I got back to the pits and lifted the hood I found a lot more oil around the front of the engine and found it was coming out of the front of the valley pan, it had pushed out the RTV, and although I had some RTV with me I didn't have any intake gaskets which meant the weekend fun was over. On closer inspection I realised that I had made an error with the fitment of my breathers and by joining them together into a catch can with a breather only half the size of one of the two breather on the rockers covers, So I will change this and fit an header evac system to help keep the motor sealed.
As for getting of the line with the tunnel ram I think I need to look at getting a transbrake fitted as this will allow me to get the RPM up on the line letting me launch a lot harder, this can be next winters project.

Gibbo ran his Dart on the friday in street trim and ran an 12.85 through the pipes with loads of wheel spin, so he put the slicks on and uncorked it ready for Saturday morning. In the Morning he went off for his first run and after a long time returned on the end of a tow rope. something had let go, there was water coming out of both exhausts. When the plugs were removed the motor was turned over by hand loads of water out of number 4. I must say Clive was quite chilled out maybe its because his daughter was there, I know I would have been kicking everything in sight.

The rest of the weekend was spent chilling. The only rain we had was on the Sunday which stopped the racing for about one in the afternoon untill about three.

Great report and shots Guy...Ade really shouldn't wear shorts though!

What's the deal with the Rover, is it a sleeper or just a stocker? Anyway the Suzy Q Cuda will do very nicely thank you...

Nice pictures and write up Guy. Good to see things moving in the right direction. I'd hold off the transbrake for a bit, I think you need to mess with the carbs first. I think what you have is a lean bog, don't forget you have no power valves in a centre squirter to help you out when you mash the throttle, the accelerator circuit is the only instant enrichment you have and it's only one pump and in effect, only one squirter to do it with. I don't know what main jets you have in the carbs, obviously you need to square jet. Think I had 74's when I ran a 383 with a tunnel ram, so you'd need more jet than that, perhaps it's already a bit lean at idle? It's probably why most centre squirters have been modified to delay the secondaries opening and keep the air speed up and stop it going lean. Big pump cam and bigger squirters (Assuming they're available) is what I'd be trying first.
