I've heard there's some kind of muscle car gathering in the park (Battersea Park presumably) - anyone know anything?

Your right Rob, Paul Dodds from Surrey muscle is trying to get a lot of Muscle cars there, by the sound of things it might be a good one this month.

Would that be the Albert Bridge side of the park, do you know? Any times been mentioned yet?

We are all going up Sat afternoon, to make a day of it as it were

Paul told me there's a lot meeting up at Krispy Kreme from 6pm.

Well, we made the effort. And some effort it was

Met up with Paul (66 GTO) at the Ace, around 5.30 and after a brief mooch around and quick comfort stop

we set off for Chelsea around 6.10. I jumped in with Paul, while Stu drove the Dodge with his eldest as passenger.

No probs for the first few miles, along the A406, then along the A40, but as soon as we got off the dual carriageway, to join the A5.... BAM... GRIDLOCK. Well I think that's what gridlock is. Think Italian Job - like when they screwed with the traffic lights

Decided against using the A5 for the short distance to Marble Arch and took a slightly longer detour to go down Baker Street; our normal way in if coming from home, rather than the Ace. Another bad decision

Must have taken 1/2 hr to go the 1/2 mile down Baker Street, till we finally got to Oxford Street for the 1/4 mile to Marble Arch. Should be plain sailing from here, we thought. 3 lanes each way down Park Lane, we usually sail down there.

Wrong again. Still chocka. All the way down to Hyde Park Corner. Then we saw the possible culprit. Shouldnt have been a surprise really. A BWM has decided to try & push a coach out of the way so lost his from end and left a long blue stripe down the side of the coach. It was only blocking 1½ lanes round Hyde Park Corner but it's all I can think was causing the 2 miles and 1hr of traffic we'd just sat in.

Thankfully the next stretch, past Victioria Stn up to the old Chelsea Barracks was fine.... until we got to within 1/4 mile of Chelsea Bridge, and the next hold up. Another 1/2 hr to go 200yds.

Waiting to get thru the lights, I could just about see some of the cars coming up from Sloane Square that were heading in the same direction - Al's orange Duster, a Camaro, a 71 hemi cuda, a Firebird.... hold on... a 71 hemi cuda?

But once onto the bridge, no more problems and we were soon parked up in Battersea Park.

Amazingly neither Paul’s nor ours overheated. Paul’s leccy fan kept his to 220 deg max, and Stu said ours was ‘way over there’ (a lot nearer the H than the C) but managed to keep all its water.

Pleased we made the effort and contributed in some way to this 'reunion', or whatever it was sposed to be, but I dont think either us or Paul will be making a return journey to do it all again, any time soon

Nah proper nostalgia that is Dralon interior with the tassles, in a jacked up mk1 escort van with huge wolfies on and jag back axle and red fairy lights. Bring back the good old days
