Following an operation in July 2011 to remove a spinal chord tumour my son Bradley has to have 6 monthly MRI scans in case of any re growth.
Our appointment this evening was at 6 pm so as usual we took the train then hopped in a cab to Gt Ormand street hospital.
The cabby was quiet ( makes a change for a black cab !)only telling us he was going to take a different route as traffic was bad ahead and would knock some money off the fare.
"No problem" I replied and on we went. Brad was nervous as they have to inject a contrast half way through scan and was asking the " what if ........"questions.
So. We arrive at hospital jump out and I lean in to pay cabby.
" no charge mate " was said as I leaned in.
"Sorry.." I replied in disbelief !
I tried explaining that things were looking good and it was a great gesture but it was his living and he should be paid.
He said. " look mate. I've been doing this job for 20 years and never charged anyone whose kid I've dropped here. Tell you what. Do me a favour and put the fare in the donation box "
So that's what we did and a bit more.
See. Still some good people left
