Best to keep the original ones and have them reached and retemperered. Cost about £180 and take one week. Job done. New ones aren't made of the best steel.

I did mine four years ago and they are still perfect and I use my car a lot and when I got to the Nats I have had three people in the car with all our stuff and nothing bottomed out.MilesnMiles wrote:Anton, who do you use? I'd read stories of re tempered springs declining fairly quickly. I'd be glad to be wrong as it would save me money to go for re tempered.
I used Brost Forge in kings cross.
Derek did his about two years ago and the are perfect still and he use Paddington Springs in Wembley.
I had Dave999 done at Brost forge too and they were great.

Before you take them off measure both sides of the car and then put a jack under the rear bumper and raise the rear till you get the stance you want and if you raised the car one inch tell the company that redo your springs you want one inch added to them. If you want to make the rear suspension stiffer you car also add another leaf to the springs.

i can confirm that a spring restoration works wonders
anton mesured
pulled them out
got them sorted and built them back up with plastic i got from wasp and zinc sliders i made from ebay 0.8mm plate
new clamps
painted and installed
nice!!!
unless you have grooved and weakend the long spring due to worn out plastics or grease and road dirt grinding paste
and you have no need to deliberatly make it handle in a none standard way.
i.e race car springs and shocks purly designed to launch the missile not go to the shops
the method that taxi drivers trailer companies and plant companies have been using since day dot makes sense
take off re-set rebuild put back. the standard steel spring was made when steel was made of steel....it sagged after 40 years of use in a car designed to last 5 years....thats pretty good going. bend to spec and retemper puts back what 40 years of vibration and over loading took away.
