What I found in a car park

Post by Gas for GOSH »

Went to Castle Combe race circuit yesterday to watch Josh and the Penair School team race their electric car in the formula 24 western region 12-16 yr old Greenpower heat. (They came third in this 4 hour endurance race so medals all round, a trophy AND Renishaw award for Best Engineered Car of the 44 racing...so go Josh :thumbright:..... also the Renishaw guy really laid into the importance of Science Technology Engineering and Maths and said one of the winning teams from last year has just had one of their young men taken on by Red Bull F1...If your school's not involved yet I totally recommend these races as a way of getting young people into engineering. So a high grid place booked in the National final at Goodwood next month).

Anyway I found two interesting specimens in the car park. One wing mirror photo of each to start with: so what's the red car, what's the white one?
Let's see how many photos it takes to ID them!

The wing mirrors might look sort of similar to my old Charger ones too....same sort or era, but it's not a Mopar Sam.......

I'm sure I recognise the 1st photo. Something to do with the way the sheet metal goes up to the A pillar........Remember looking at the car and some of the design cues.

It has however completely escaped me!

2nd one not a clue...........I'll say E Type though!

The white one is a Lotus Elite, still working on the red one, thought it might have been an elan 2+2 looking at the reflection.

The red one, I think, is an Alfa GTV S2 from early-mid seventies.

Not with the mirrors that far back.

The top one is definitely an Elite. A teacher at our school gave me a lift home in one. Thought it was quite cool at the time.

You wouldn't get a teacher doing that these days without getting arrested.

The red one is tough. I was also thinking Italian, as you can see that headlamp line bulge in the reflection of the back of the mirror. Can't quite tell if it's RHD or LHD though. :?

You still might be right with that. I was trying to figure out what the panel joint lines were. Could be an Elan.

Giulia Sprint GT?

And that might be an Eclat, actually.

Both very nice. The Alfa would be my choice. 8-)

Is that Eclat really a sprint? They only made a tiny number, didn't they?

Close on both, must try harder, at least they both shared the same doors and mirrors!
