recolouring cloth seat inserts

Ive got to re colour the faded cloth inserts on my front seats on the Fury and was wondering if anyone has tried this and if so, what did you use and how did you do it???

Probably best to put new fabric in, can be a bit tricky depending on the condition of the old vinyl around the fabric.

Can you get replacement covers for them?

Thanks Jon...on a budget mate so got to try dye first.....Ive found a company in Shropshire that has spray dye paint for soft cloth car interiors so will give that a go. Im trying to get the front to match the rears so will probably end up dying them both to match...

I must confess I have never heard of that!

Just make sure they have insurance to back them up if anything goes wrong. It is a different thing but I have seen damage cause by cleaning that has cost £1000's to put right and no insurance to sort it out.

Will be interesting to see how they do it

I had a MGC with blue cracked seat I put that cheap seat dye all over them

was great at first but did rub off over time

think of it a permanent shoes polish

That will do the vinyl, but as you say it does have a limited life but not sure that it would work on fabric

If it rubs off, is it likely to turn your jeans red??

Just thinking two hour drive to the Nats when its 25 degrees. Hot, sweaty seats........Possible issues?

i bet you could go in to a local general auto store and buy some red arsehole spray bombs

and spray them cloth inserts and it will take fine

I painted all the dash pad in my charger with normal black 2k

came out great I did find that I had to really scrub them with a good silcon remover first as they did fish eye the first time around

Hi Mick...car is originally a York, Pennsilvania car from new and the last keeper was from Pleasant Valley, New York. Not sure about movements in between those owners but at some time the dash pad and front seats have become sun faded. Its not bad, just lightened the fabric. The original colour is visible when the front seats are forward. Everything else is fine inside..just a bit damp. I will dry everything out properly, clean the inserts and see how I get on. She certainly hasnt had a dry State life but generally very solid and straight.

Dunc, thought of that but two spray bottles of the stuff I posted up was £25 so not mega money for something that is designed to do what Im trying to do so didnt want to take a chance. You are probably spot on though mate.

Keep you posted Jon...guessing if it works, it might be of some use to your customers in the future.

Will, think thats good for low flex parts etc so will bear it in mind. Lots of stuff available for vinyl seats, but I need something that soaks in to cloth so hope this works!
