Frustrated cos the rear end is all ready for primer but it's too damn cold to paint. I settled for decoking my valves on the wire wheel.

Recommendations for decoking the heads anyone?

Well our oven cleaner says 'NOT FOR ALLY' so I'll pick up some Mr Muscle tomorrow. Or coke, whichever works out cheaper ;)

Meanwhile... rear end & tops of wings primered :thumbright:

The next job is welding up that wheel arch :help:

Back to the heads... An hour with the oven cleaner shifted a bit but not a lot. An overnight stay in Coke did bugger all so as A last resort I turned to some actual engine cleaner...
Good old Gunk and a brass wire brush shifted the lot in an hour or so's scrubbing :thumbright:

So this evening I popped up to see my mate Terry. We set the head up on his mill to remove the damaged part of the guide. He made a drift to fit it and found a bit of tube the fitted nicely into the valve spring well.
If we'd found the key to his gas bottle we'd have the guide out by now. Bugger!
Anyway I don't have the new guide yet so it'll be next week before we sort it.

They're at the right age now. It was hard when they were too small to be safe in the garage, now unless i'm welding or summat they love to 'help'.
Also they're in bed by 8 so then I get a couple of hours to meself :thumbright:

Oh for a pair of heads like that back in 1987...that old slug of mine would've been in the 11's on motor....yes we had W2's but that meant another intake, Rockers, Headers and mucho ££££'s.

Nice work Paul :thumbright:

I suppose its all down to having a large enough garage. My kids are a " safe" age but I have a small garage. Prob even too small for an A body.
Mmmmmm. Mopar powered rod ?
Food for thought !! ;)
