Thought i would try and start the car today after engine and gearbox upgrade, turn the key and nothing, silence is not golden
checked starter relay all wire connected, starter connected, handbrake on turned the key while moving gear shift lever from park, got to reverse and starter started to turn over, thats not suppose to happen.
Could this be neutral safety switch, recheck wiring, all good
Questions
Could the nss plug be back to front,i have not connected lokar kick down cable at carb end yet, could this cause this
any suggestions would be appreciated

Kickdown will have nothing to do with it, Is the NSS on the transmission or the shifter? Been a long time since I looked at an Aussie motor, either way it sounds like the adjustment is wrong, if it is on the trannie then get underneath & disconnect the linkage, then by hand engage it in park & try the starter. Same again for neutral, if that's OK then with it in neutral put the shifter into neutral & adjust the rod/cable until it all goes together nicely. Then to be sure move the shifter through all the positions & check that the linkage is adjusted correctly, if it is tight in Park or 1 then you may have to get creative with the shift lever on the transmission, although this will normally only be a problem with some aftermarket shifters due to slightly different leverage ratios (hope this makes sense)
You can't have too much power, only a lack of traction!
sounds like adjustment
when you shifted into ‘reverse’, did the car move??
suspect that when you shift into what you believe is reverse, the trans is actually going into neutral, hence the NSS is closing the circuit and the starter is energised, i.e.; the shifter/trans is one position out
check the trans shift linkage adjustment, with the shift lever in Park, the trans control lever should be all the way to the rear

I agree with this.Charger wrote:sounds like adjustment

The NSS on out cars have no adjustment like on a C4 or C6 so I would disconnect the gear lever from the trans and manually push the trans lever all the way forward the then rock the car back and forth till you lock it in park and then re-adjust the gear linkage to line up with the gearbox gear selector.
