69 Charger no heating

Post by Mossy68 »

Hi all.
I'm giving Lewis ( new chap I've met if you remember the coronets new friend thread ) a hand to have a look at getting some heat from his charger.
It's a 318 a/c car but the a/c isn't working. Fan works fine but no heat.
Obviously may well have had the thermostat removed / not working but is there any other " usual " issues to look at. ?
For example if the dash control has packed up anyway it can be by passed or something disconnected and manually operated to get heat ???
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks chaps. Gary :thumbright:

blocked heater core??

blocked air ducts??

not a good idea to run without thermostat, a functioning thermostat provides restriction in the water neck so that water flow through the radiator at the correct rate for maximum cooling, removing the thermostat can cause the water to flow too quickly resulting in the water exiting the radiator before it’s been cooled sufficiently

There will be a valve on the water hoses between the engine and the bulkhead to open/close the hot water to the heater core.

probably the first thing some think of to attempt to cure an overheating problem the root cause of which is something completely different

At the risk of stating the obvious, are the pipes from the water pump / inlet still in place - often peole "Short Circuit" these when the matrix has a leak........

All sorted.
After freeing up all the control levers etc and checking what was / wasn't operating from the control panel I had a feeling that although the heat control valve all looked to be working it just felt too easy.
By passed the valve and instant heat.
One very happy charger owner. After 2 years of no heat its now Texas inside.
Also showed him which vacuum pipes to disconnect so that he could control areas of heat buy manual operation ( control panel not working )
In turn I also found out how to direct heat to my coronets screen.
A productive day.
Thanks for advice chaps.
Much appreciated :thumbright:

Forgot to say that whilst I was in the upside down under dash viewing position I spotted some paper under dash pad.
Broadcast sheet number 2 !( Lewis found first under carpet )

Great day Gary...well done matey. Just picking up on what Pete said, the pipes on my Polara were looped back on each other when I bought her, a sure sign that the core was leaking!!

Glad you found an easy fix :thumbright:
