Which wheel bearing? (non-mopar)

Post by Dave-R »

I have the start of a tiny bit of play on one rear wheel bearing on the Corvette.

The prices I have found on the internet for this part vary considerably from as little as £30 to £150.

Is it a case of getting what you pay for or are you paying more for the manufactures name?

Which would you pick from these?

Decent brand gets my quote.....I wouldn't Bananarama! about with cheaper parts in Steering/Breaks/some drivetrain (inc bearings) and Suspension.

Not that the cheaper parts are dodgy or dangerous, its just piece of mind for me! £500 possibly, but for the sake of 80-100 difference, probably not!

Moog for me Dave......Bet that's the expensive one (I seem to have expensive tastes)! :D :thumbright:

73 Plymouth Duster - SOLD

I wanna go so FAST i think i'm going to DIE!..........Then i'll shift into second!

Just my choice but I'd go for Timken or SKF Dave.

I've bought some good stuff from Moog though...
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

This, can you not get the bearings from a local bearing place using the numbers from the old ones?
You can't have too much power, only a lack of traction!

No. It is a complete hub assembly only used on two GM models.

Same as some Dodge Ram & Ford F series front wheel bearings, makes it faster on assembly & more mullar on replacements grrrrrr!

Oh FFS.

I don't need a new bearing after all.

The knock I was hearing was down to one axle stand not bearing the weight of the car. The chassis on these things is so stiff the slight uneven nature of my garage floor meant the car was only lightly touching one stand and tapping it as I pulled on the wheel.

Glad I got under there to double check before I actually bought one. :D

Still, I dare say a few thousand miles down the road I will probably be needing to replace one or two anyway. At least I have all the information I need for when the time comes. :read2:
