auto gearbox problem
Hi i am unable to move my Dodge d100 in any gears, sometimes it will move a little then no more.It selects through the column change through all gears.I have not had it long but i noticed it was leaking alot of auto transmission fluid on the garage floor.Could this be the trouble or has the box had it? last time out it did break a uj but i have replaced this.It is a 383 engine with a (i believe) 727 box. Has any body got a working box for sale? Any help please Ken 07971529716
Have a leak on my 904.
Went out driving once and forgot to top it up. Very slow to pick up and gave the impression of a slipping clutch.
Topped up fluid and back to normal!
Silly question, but have you checked the fluid level?

Yeah you just drop the pan to change the filter. The gearbox needs high hydraulic pressure to operate. If the fluid level gets a bit low, the pump can't produce the pressure to operate the clutches and the box slips. Trying to use the box without enough fluid will wear the clutches out as they will be slipping like crazy.ken100 wrote:I need to find out where its leaking from, before i top it up,but this could be the problem then?Is It easy to change the filter in the box?
The most common seal to leak is the main one on the input shaft in the bell housing. You would have to drop the box to get that one.
There is also a seal where the gear selector shaft goes into the casing on the left side above the pan rail. That one is easy to get out if you take the pan off and unbolt the valve body.
If you need any seal for your box I have loads.

fire it up warm it up in N add fluid a pint at a time keep selecting gears dont rev it just let it take up drive itself if it is going to get the fluid on the lower mark go drive it see what goes,
