There's othing wrong with a 318 Gary, in fact if its a '68 318 its one of the best of the bunch at around 9.0:1CR and 230hp stock as you said before.
The 318 is a lot stronger internally than people think and will rev no probs, the bits you got on there no doubt work well and if you got a cam of around .450" max in there, similar to a stock 340 cam, all the better as that will make a nice package with the other mods.
Only thing I would say is if your weiand intake manifold is for a 340/360? you'll have a mismatch in intake port sizes and could do with matching the intake ports in the heads as they are smaller. Also if you haven't already... make sure with that set up you got a total of 36 deg timing for optimum power, you could improve things by fitting 360 valves, but its not that important. Apart from the cubes you've got a much better package there than the 360 from the truck and your right to stay with it...and once you fit some 3.55's it'll fly....and of course you've got the Gas to go
Cheers Les.
It is the engine it left the factory with. Heads are stock and no idea of cam lift / duration.
Love big blocks but there's something about a screaming small block.
No tacho on the truck but it loves to rev and is great fun.
Carl's runner impressed me. Real snappy.
I'll check out the manifold. Think I have a number for it some where.
Thanks for advice. Sure ill be needing plenty in the future

Well. After years of some great bodging on the exhaust I think I may have to bite the bullet on a new system.
Got a nice blow at the box entrance and it seems there is no sound part to cut back to. So its going to have to be renewed from manifolds back.
I will be getting a quote from flowtech as they are local and will prob go for flowmaster boxes on a short system ( cheap as poss coz I'm skint )!
It sounds ok at the moment. Are open headers legal ?
I know there are cheaper boxes out there and I've used them in previous bodges but if its going to last a while its got to sound right

I've tried it with no mufflers. Bananarama! loud !!!
Not sure the neighbours will be very happy at 6 am every morning
Actually a plan. If they all moan , I can explain how crap my industry is at the moment and if they all chip in they can buy me a new quite exhaust system.
Sorted.
BUT .......... I think I'd be more likely receiving an angry torch bearing mob to run me out of town !

Love the simple clean lines and really suits the black paint...
Cheers Steve. Had just noticed a slight blow on Sunday ( sorry I missed you mate )
Lol. I'll never forget my night on the back at the Nats.
Never again !!!
Jacks back was fine after a night in cold steel.
Perhaps he should loose his comfy bed !!!

Bit of a late post.
Friday an unavoidable pot hole finished my rusty exhaust off. Sheared rear hanger bracket snapping both pipes at recent bodge and ran over pipes.
Had been speaking to Anton regarding a new system and was waiting to see how far back towards the manifold I needed to go. He also suggested to run the pipes each side to balance lengths etc.
So. I now have open headers ( sounded great ) and at least a week away ,maybe two minimum before I could get to Anton. ( kindly mentioned he may be able to do it one Saturday )
Decided that I had no choice to try another bodge. So Friday at work the chaps at RR got some pipe picked up for me and I grabbed a couple of flowmasters from Customville on my way home.
9 bloody hours with limited tools ,rust, dirt, blood, sweat and lots of swearing later my last exhaust bodge EVER was finished.
Not proud of it.
Not what I wanted.
But hopefully should hold out for a while.
