Post by Johnny Dart »

Any one had any dealings with the Quick fuel slayer 600 or 750.
or any of the pro comp carbs, as an alternative to Holley or Edlebrock ?
Thanks

Well I am going to import one.The Quick fuel slayer 600 VS or HR 680 VS
look like they are ok, the procomp ones are cheaper.
I wondered if anyone was using either of them ?

Added FBO to favourites, for future reading.

If you can fill out our spec sheet I will get the guys in the US to work out which will work best for you and see what they can do on price for you.

Quickfuel are not cheap but they are good carbs. I use a 1050 on mine, it has made the car very consistent which is fantastic on a bracket car.

Its kind of tricky, because in the first instance I want to clean up the original heads, lap in etc, shave the heads to get up near 9.75- 1, and port match them to a air cap 4 barrel manifold.change the cam to a Comp XE 268 on the original 318. Then at a later date I want to build up a 360 may be stroker 360 dependant on funds. Both engines will require different CFM carbs,
So may be a HR680VS would be a compromise, or maybe I'll need to have a 600 for the 318 and buy another larger one for the engine I may build later.

Johnny in the short term the Holley 600 is eay to find quite cheap then when you get more serious with the 360 get turnip to sort you out.

Yes Miles that is another choice,If I could find a cheap good, not worn out ,fairly new Holley.
I Have been looking but not found any yet, plenty of old £100 ones, that could be 40 or 50 years old and would need a kit,may be all the shaft bushes worn out. Then your getting up to prices I can import a Quick fuel or Summit 4 barrel for

Yes I think I am maybe jumping the Gun, as I'm still doing work on it to get its 1st MOT. I just can wait to drive it.
I am doing all the stuff right, as I don't want to fall into the trap of "just get it moted and drive it"
I want it right first time, and that takes time !

If I were you. I would get it on the road and do your mods etc as and when.
You get a much clearer picture as to what you want from your car after being behind the wheel for a while.
I had last year in my Coronet just driving and sorting any teething problems ( it had sat outside unloved for 6 years or so )
Having not owned one, or driven one for any length of time it really gives a good insight into what you like / dislike about the car.
Just my story. Obviously your car so your rules :thumbright:

So true, I am just getting a bit frustrated, as I have said before 1 step froward and 2 back,
Last night I had a an evening in the barn, putting the dash back together (still), I put the heater controls in , I put the radio in, I went to put the ash tray in, only to find it fits in from behind the dash,Got fed up went indoors !
This evening took it all back out again, fitted the ash tray , then put radio and controls back, painted the glove box inside.
Still waiting for speedo cable to arrive and some switches.
Fed up now back indoors !

Chin up mate.
These old mopes can drive you mad at times. But. You are doing the right thing. Addressing all the small bits prior to road use. We all make mistakes. But they are also lessons learnt.
It gets easier. I'm no where near where I would like to be as far as knowledge on these cars but that's why I'm here.
Keep chipping away and you'll soon be standing back smiling at your achievements.
Then in a few months you get the best bit.
