i'd be pretty damn pleased with 350....
i'd need new tyres as well
not much done this weekend had loads of stuff on
but got the oiling side of things sorted
on went the rebuilt pump
o-ringed to block pickup and cover
new spring and piston.
pumps have a habit of smashing themeslves off their mounts, due to hamonic vibrations and cam shaft end float and nobody makes a new one.
part of the problem is that the cog drive end of the shaft is not supported in the block. you can get some machining done to take a bush or bearing and get a custom shaft for the pump made up that extends into this support area. but its a pain in the behind probably not necessary and probably weakens an already bendy block.
instead went for a pump support that ties it into main cap no.4
no idea if this will work yes it says mirabito performance on it...but as far as i can tell Mr Mirabito is just a man who has a mate with a laser cutter.
anyway the aim is to stop the pump body fracturing at the mounts if it sizes. pump uses same impellor and ring as a 318 273 etc
fair amount of install and remove to get the bracket bent to the correct angle of dangle so that the pump is not stressed when it rest.
all in
yay
Dave
PS connecting rods look Ginger/golden becasue at some point in their lives they have had the big end copper plated???! this I could understand if they were too narrow and the side play was exessive. its not. the rods/crank are in tollerance, odd. Anyway nothing wrong with rods just appear to have been subjected to a rather old school technique in the past.
wierd

this is the one from Oz
the one i picked up in the UK is Mint apart from being fossilised on the outside
hardly a ridge in the bore and still on its orginal head gasket...
it came off the road i'd guess due to the exhaust manifold fracturing at cylinder no 5. had been bodged back with epoxy putty which had filled the choke actuator and and gone all over the place.....but i guess that would be a 70s/80s write off in a time before internet and easy access to parts
hence motor itself is pretty damn good...
only bit i'll use of it is its early rocker tin i think

i do indeed. its mainly being used as a supply of fastners at the moment
so many missing from the Aussie motor
slow progress
spent a bit of timing getting a cam button modified to fit
comp cams nylon spun down to fit the end of the cam
aim was to kit an old water pump but smashed it taking it to bits
Bilt hamber deox gelled the timing cover and forgot i'd left it
so when it cam out it was like a black fossil but its come up ok...needs paint quick but ill Bananarama! all in ornage when its done
pig to get the crank/balancer seal in
new water pump on
head should go on tonight
For the things that matter ARPs catalogue has been cross referenced and a mixture of chevy (head) ford (main cap kit) and mopar(rods) stud/bolt kits have been used.
and i have a click troque wrench and and beam torque wrench for checking that the click wrench isn't telling lies.
