Do you commute in your Mopar and want to be on Telly??

Post by MattH »

Most of us have to commute to work somehow so this might be of interest self explanatory I hope.

Dear Car Owners Club,

I’m emailing from a television production company in the hope that you might be able to help me please. We’re developing a new TV series about people’s daily commutes. I’m wondering if any of your members might be interested in sharing their stories about travelling to work with me.

Crackit Productions specialises in making factual, features and factual entertainment series and documentaries for the top British television channels including BBC1, Channel 4 and Channel 5. Our recent credits include Excessive and Compulsive Collectors and Countdown to Murder for Channel 5, You Deserve This House and The Ugly Face of Beauty for Channel 4 and Alexander Armstrong’s Very British Holiday for BBC1.

We’re currently developing a new series for Channel 5 about people’s commutes to work. The programme idea is to follow people’s journeys to work or school by car, van, mini bus or other private vehicle. I’m particularly interested in talking to people who commute together for all or part of their journey – couples, families, neighbours, friends or work colleagues.

For example, my friends, a couple expecting their first baby, commute over 3 hours together every day in the second-hand sports car that Ben bought on the spur of the moment. It costs a fortune to run but he loves it! Ironically, the car is a lot cheaper to run than them both commuting to work by train from outside Reading into London. If there’s heavy traffic or an accident on the read their commute can easily increase to 4 ½ hours round trip. Poor Tori often has to wait for hours while her husband works late, reading books and watching films in the car to pass the time. As Tori’s pregnancy advances, she’s finding the long commute very difficult and can’t share the driving as much.

I’m currently looking for case studies of people’s commutes to use as examples in our proposal. We’re not looking for people to feature on TV yet, we’re just looking for real life examples of commutes. If the series gets commissioned, and any of the case studies were interested in featuring on the programme, we would of course be very interested in talking to them about this possibility.

I’m wondering if any of your members might be up for talking to me about their commutes? Or do you or your members know anyone who commutes by private vehicle with one or more people who might be interested?

Any help you can give me will be very gratefully received. If you have any questions please email me at this address or call me on 0207 612 3311. Please feel free to pass on my contact details to anyone who’s interested in talking to me or who might be able to help.

Yours sincerely,

Janet Chute
