Aftermarket parts that don't fit!

Post by MilesnMiles »

Not for the first time..
Ordered new door frame seals which arrived very quickly from Rockauto and check parts: sticker states 71-74 b body, so it's correct. Take the old ones off to find they are different!
The old seals fit very rightly in the frame trim and the new ones fit loosely. Moreover, the new ones have nice plastic clips in the seal to retain them, except the frame on my car has no such aperture/holes drilled for the clips.
Ok, I can make them fit, but this is not the first time I've ordered 'correct' parts only to find that they will only fit with a 'make do and mend' approach.
Bloody glad I'm not a purist restorer, it would do my head in

That's why top notch restorers insist on NOS parts....

Yep.....PS High Pressure return hose. Got the federal pump, order one and the hard pipe config is completely different and the hose looks too short........

So buy the other just to see if its any different.........It is, but nope still not right!

Only two options and neither are as per my original install....... :help:

Third option i'll rip it of and get it re-hosed!!!!

Possibly little comfort but all the bits I have got for '70 Challenger from Year One and Classic Industries have been sound. Plenty of options for hole patterns not to match - washer bottle, trans inspection plate, front licence plate bracket but they have all dropped straight into the hole patterns - which to be honest, surprised me. Worst fitting bits on the car are the fascia, pillar trims etc. where most holes don't have a prayer of lining up - but the originals were probably no better !

Only niggle is some of the stuff could do with some basic assembly tips as there is obviously a knack to some of it . . .
