headers for a 67 barracuda

Post by Anonymous »

anybody know of (or have some they want rid of) any headers that will fit a 1967 rhd barracuda with a 440 as these are proving elusive to say the least... fenderwells have already been tried but there is no tyre clearance. any ideas will be gratefully received.

Welcome aboard! The headers I have will not work with RHD. Tyre clearance is always an issue with fenderwell headers, 4x15 wheels with 185 tyres will work if you crank up the torsion bars a bit. If you are wanting a lowish ride height and a wider tyre, then fenderwells will not work out at all. There are no underchassis headers available that will fit a 440 in a RHD A body, you will either have to make your own or have them made (very expensive), Clearance in a LHD 440 A body is bad enough, the position of the steering box on a RHD car makes things much worse.

Welcome to the madness :)

If its that tight the solution might be some 4 -> 2 -> 1 tubular setup instead of a traditional header ... just a thought :)

(topic moved to a more appropriate location ;))

thanks everyone, the car has got some headers of a fashion on it (homemade by a previous owner) but they are not ideal. i knew they would be hard to get as everywhere ive tried only have lhd applications ive even tried australia and south africa but they have same problems we do.... ho-hum. the things we do for more power eh? lol.
as for it being joes car.. it may well be! we dont have that much info on the cars past.. ive have had it for 7 years now and it used to be bright orange and have a bonnet scoop of some description (dont know which type as it was taken off before i got it) having lots of fun with it now though..... just gotta get the power down now

If you've had it 7 years its not Joes ;) Someone here may well have old photos of it though ...

There are people in the club with the skills to make up a custom set, maybe Blue or TrevD could help you out (?)

I'd suggest starting a new thread in the Musclecar Lounge to look for history of the car, there were about 200 RHD Chargers sold here, but not many have survived engine theft, rust or banger racing!

If you need further help finding someone who can help make headers be sure to ask again, persistance pays off with this kinda stuff :)

There used to be one fitting that description in the Ashton under Lyne or Stalybridge area around 1989-1990ish. I looked at it a couple of times but never spoke to the owner.
