Anyone into Shooting?

I went clay shooting once, about 25 years ago, was ok for a beginner, similar to Dave probably about 50%, enjoyed it a lot, but haven’t done it since

in ’98 I was on a business trip in Huntsville, Alabama, on the last evening they organised a visit to a shooting range, I was due to fly out that evening to Atlanta to stay with my bro for a few days before returning home, but I needed to do shooting, so bumped flight back a day (bro understood!! ), it was an awesome evening, all handguns, started with .22 and got try a range of weapons, half way through the evening I got a tap on the shoulder from 1 of the range marshals, he asked if I had done this before, “no, never” I said, “really?? you’re good” he replied, I was chuffed with that, finished off the evening with a Colt .45 and .347 Magnum, truly amazing, like firing a canon

Used to regularly target shoot with a .22 and .303 when I was in the ATC a million years ago. I'm somewhat anti gun these days, so it's not something I would want to go back to.

My old "mate" Don used to like his guns.

Never thought he would use one on a mutual friend who dissapeared 20 years ago. But he has just been found guilty of the murder of a woman that has also vanished without trace.

Just heard he got 32 years. He is sixty now. Hope I am still strong enough to swing a pick axe handle when I am 87. I still want to know where my other mate is.

Not good but its not guns that cause issues, people cause these problems. Guns cars etc, anything can be used a a weapon.

Thats a scary story Dave...very distressing situation. I know we have had this debate on here before and there are for and againsts with everything in life. Hard to justify guns really....designed and mostly used for killing people and animals.

Im happy doing target shooting as a pastime but thats it. What worried me about my maes set up in Idaho is that when we decided to go shooting, we were delayed by an hour or so while he searchrd his house and huge barn sized garage to find his 3 rifles. He couldnt find his pistol and he never locks his house up when he goes out:shock:

This is partly my issue with guns, most of the people I've known over the years that legally owned guns were somewhat of a type, survivalist, bit unhinged and a bit too "into" it for my liking. In fact they very people you would think would have trouble getting a licence in the first place...

Anyway, nothing wrong with target shooting or clay, just not my thing.

Was brought up with guns around me. Both sides of my family were into hunting. Sunday lunch for free. Started with a 410 shot gun at 13.
Done a bit of clays and sometimes pop out with my mate for pest control. Havnt renewed my lisence so my mate has my True lock and Harris on his.
If this technological world ever does go on shutdown at least I can still feed my family.

just how it was where I grew up. Lots of farms etc , so quite the norm to shoot.
I think that's half the problem nowadays. Kids view guns as cool and some sort of status thing. All the shooting games on x box etc.
I was taught how to use them safely , drip and clean them from a very young age before I could shoot my job was to clean my dads guns when he came in. I quite enjoyed it. They were always thoroughly inspected before being locked away.
I've never viewed them as a " big " thing. All my mates Dads shot so no brownie points to be gained there.
Tbh. The " strangest " thing to my mates I did was go up the pod every meeting with my family. !!!!!!

Used to shoot on the army ( even got a medal for it ) and used to shoot pistol and rifle when I came out had a few hand guns , 455 webley, 38 special had a nice Ruger super black hawk s/a44 mag and s/w 357 , plus a few rare ones and still got me black powder 600 express game rifle , 577mini officers fussel ( very accurate did the Bisley 1000yds for a couple of years ) and a tower 750bore musket ( 3/4 inch ball smooth bore ) a very nice boxed Adams & Adams with all the bits and an 1880 cold navy in box with bits , saying that I might just join MLGB club to dust them off all the above are genuine 1800 percussion firearms
