I used to work in an old fashioned hardware shop about 15 years ago, we stocked both metric and imperial drill bits, we only stocked Dormer HSS drill bits because they work but lots of customers used to complain about the price of them: "Why should I pay £10 for a single drill when I can buy a box of 30 in Homebase for £5?" was the usual sort of question.
Dealing with akward customers can really grind you down though, I once had a bloke in the shop buying some brick ties, he then went on to ask me loads of technical questions about bricklaying which I didn't know the answers to, he then said that maybe I shouldn't be selling the stuff if I don't know how to use it. Just before I threw him out the shop, I informed him that if I could lay bricks, I would be on a building site earning a lot more money than I was in the shop and that I wouldn't be have to deal with idiots like him.

Funny story but true, the old world is leaving us and makes me sad,i'm forever being told to catch up BO!!OCKS!

That's fair enough. But the salesman I am dealing with is insisting HE is the expert. Totally the wrong foot to stand on. :evil:

I think I'd be having a word with the local trading standards office about him miss selling goods and wrong descriptions of such. He is trying to palm you off with an item that clearly is not what you have asked for.

I have full sets of Dormer drills, number from No. 80 onwards,letter,metric in .1mm increments and imperial from 1/32 to 1/2" here in my shed. :P

Normally comes down to customer service... The right or wrong person can have a big impact on your business I think as we get older we all want things done the right way without any excuses or silly answers I know I do, its not much to ask... I get my Victor head on at airports.... Delays-excuses... Don't get me started but I know where your coming from Dave...

Don't get that bit.......i recon he's seen your a short fuse type and is draggin it out.

I would definately be talking to the owner and enforce that all staff should be trained in refunds......Alternatively ask for the money back and a tenner on top for fuel due to his shops ineptitude!!!!

Yeah I was nice until then. He was going to give me a refund and then changed his mind just to be a Bananarama!. THAT is when I stopped being "polite".

This is the part I needed to ream out to fit.

It is an adaptor that replaces the stock Corvette shifter handle with button and alows you to fit a 4-speed type ball that you press down to get out of park etc.

You take the stock knob and button off, pull it's skirt down, and this adaptor and spring has to slide over the hardend steel shaft (black bit) and nylon lower half (the white bit).

It was the black steel bit that was tight in the hole. It is something like 12.58mm diameter. So the 12.5mm would have been close and a bit of wriggling about might have done.
But a correct half inch size gives it just the right amoung of clearence so it preses down and springs back up.

Shame that like most aftermarket parts it does not fit as it comes. It is not as if it is a "Universal" fit. It is specifically for this year and model.

Once it was the right size then the actual "hard" bit was to work out how to get the cable from the line lock switch on the knob, down into the leather boot and around to the fuse box under the passenger side footwell.

I had to cut a bit out of the collar around the top of the leather boot and also grind a flat area on that adaptor to make space for the wire.
