Rotating torque testing

I need to check the rotating torque of my steering box, according to the FSM I need to use a special tool, which from the sound of the description of the special tool needed, makes it sound like a torque wrench with a dial gauge on it.

Could I use a torque angle gauge for this?

I need to attach it to the nut holding the steering wheel on and use to measure how much torque is needed to turn the steering ( manual steering )

yes you probably could but i don't know how

i'd do it thus

big socket and inch lb torque wrench. if it just clicks you are about right

or a big socket extension bar with a set of mole grips clamped on

Lb scale spring balance (robert Dyas hardware stores do em) and tape it onto the mole grips 6 inches away from the centre point drag the mole grips round

3 lb at 6 inches is 1.5 lbs per foot

use google to convert between units its easier than working it out


if you need to do it on the steering box worm shaft spline

one of the imperial 12 point sockets fit right onto the spline in a robust manner just can't remeber the size
