Lancaster bombers

Post by Steve Chapman »

Wow what a wake up for a Sunday morning. The two only flying Lancaster's straight over the house 20 min ago. Heading Northwest. Hopefully be back over later. What a fantastic noise and sight. Low level as well, mint.

That must of been a treat, a great sight and sound to behold.

I saw a Spitfire today, near Ashford Kent, just some guy having a play with his toy on a Sunday.Heard it take off,saw it fly round then heard it land. Not sure which airstrip, but not Headcorn.

Certainly a rare sight, and a lovely one too. When they have the Southend Air Show the returning planes always fly over our house which as the crow flys is only about 10 miles , guess we are on their flight path and they are so low sometimes. I have seen the Lanc come over with the Hurricane and Spit many times and it still thrills me every time, no mistaking that lovely sound of those piston engines.

During this brief period of Lancaster fever, let us not forget where the the very last operational RAF Lancasters flew from ;)

a couple of snaps from yesterday

couldn't have asked for better conditions for an air show, it was warm, blue sky, a few fluffy clouds later, there wasn't even a breeze (which always seems to be obligatory at the seaside), meant that smoke trails hung about for about 10 to 20 mins!!!!! which was a bit inconvenient at times, it was so clear we could even see the 2 Lancs take off from Blackpool Airport …
