rear axle gaskets

hi all, any one tell me where to get the foam gaskets for the rear axel from? thnx, trev
just realised ive put this in the wrong place oops :oops:

You can all laugh,cos I'm a cheapskate but I make my own. :oops: A lot of stuff like dvd players etc come in a bag made of virtually the same foam as the original material. So , a set of hole punches some scissors and a craft knife you can make 'em in the time it takes to order some. And theres no waiting for the postman,sameday job. :lol:

hi alex, yes mate it's the outer ones, i have the new steel ones ready to go in.

latil, good tech tip that, bet theres some lying round the house somewhere,

why do they have those foam seals anyway? is it a vibration thing??

I think the reason they're foam is to do with noise reduction, could be wrong though, lol.

I just use sealer. But if you want foam to make some I have a roll of the stuff you lay under laminate flooring. It looks to me to be about the right thickness.

Good point Kev,you'll also find 'em between the spindles and backplates on disc brakes :?

Not on my car you don't. The back plates and foam seals went straight in the bin.

No backing plates and no foam on the back or front. (It's all weight, and unsprung, at that!)

I think the foam is there to damp any noise you might get from the back plates, yea like you're gonna hear that with 3" mufflers....
