I presume this comes under 'Bodywork etc...'
Anyhow, as the Pass side door latch on the 63 has given up the ghost, I got these 2 NOS Door Latches off fleabay. While they seem to work fine I can't help thinking that instead of bolting them on as-is, maybe I should clean them up & give them a re-grease?
The photo shows the worst of the 2. The brown stuff isn't rust, but probably 50 years of dirt picked up by the original coating. It wipes off easy enough.
So I was wondering if I degrease with white spirit or paraffin, what's the best grease / spray to use on the pivot points?
I've got LM grease, Copperslip, Silicon spray & WD40. what's most likely to last?

My vote would be that white silicon stuff you get in an aerosol (got some at home), as it stays where you put it. Something like WD will prob run away (as in gravity, not
) and/or evaporate. Plus WD isn't really a lubricant
Most of the latch is hidden inside the door so shouldn't be too exposed to the elements when fitted, so shouldn't need to completely coat the thing in grease.
Might be worth spraying it with some of that clear lacquer first tho, just in case...

Was those new ones with a toothbrush in paraffin,I think the original plating will come up nice. Any good spray grease should do but avoid silicon ones. I use some stuff I picked up years ago called Termi-Gard,it's an aerosol type of vaseline with a corrosion inhibitor, designed for use on battery terminals. Works a treat and stays put.
