Well that's your grand pretty much gone then !!!Noodles wrote:No idea on gears or axle. All I know is I need an lsd lol.
Plenty of info on here about axles and gearing. Have a look and suss what you have. Then look at options.
I have an open diff in the truck. 360 and low gears. Get it right off the line and it'll still leave a few red faces !!!

Yep £1k may find you a good running engine, and fit a 4bbl on it, thats about it.........
Only experience I had with a 318 was in my '68 230hp Charger. That was 3.23's open diff and it would spin the std size tyre from planting it.....put some N50/15's on it and job done, plant it and it would chirp the tyre and take off....left it at that.
You might find you've got the same prob Gary especially with those 3.91's, 4bbl etc.

I've built a 360, pretty much stock apart from a compact 260h (I think) cam, this will keep your vacumm up so if you have power brakes they will still work
Things which are hard to find apart from the 360 itself will be the torque converter, not many around and needs to be a 360 one as already said.
If you find a truck 360 you will need the correct car style sump
Headers can be a pain on an abody but with yours it should be ok
Make sure you get the correct engine mounts for a 360 as they are different to a 318. Not big beer and Mancini do them and they will make all the difference.
Other stuff worth getting, decent intake like an edelbrock, 650 holley, ARP bolt set and good quality gasket set.
Speed will cost money clearly so decide what you want it for, I sort of over engineered mine and did buy stuff that with hindsight was overkill.
If you have 1k then I reckon you can easily put that into a motor and get some decent power but that's 1k into a motor you already have so you will have to save a bit more and get a decent donor engine first.
A bargain motor is a bargain motor for a reason !

Thanx. I bought a complete 360 but the block was scrap. So I have heads, sump, oil pump, mallory dizzy if it works, basically everything apart from the block and crank and a waterpump. Also got a edelbrock performer rpm intake and a 600 or 650 holley vac sec. No power brakes at the mo but the servo etc was included with the car when I bought it. Just not fitted yet. Also have a manual trans so dont need to worry about converter.
