charger rear stripe

Post by Gas for GOSH »

Can someone please tell me how many millimetres in from the edge of the boot lid and end of rear quarters a rear stripe kit should be on a 68 charger. Also how wide the stripe is. I want to mock up with masking tape first before definitely buying. Many thanks.

Not sure on that but the rear thick stripe is centered on the rear marker

Not on a 68 its not.

The 68 is two separate stripes of equal width. The one thick stripe flanked by two thin stripes centred on the marker is 70 only.

Heres the iffy bit, the RT "stripes are different to the base model stripes. On the RT the round rear marker is in the stripe, on the base model it isnt.
Do you want RT stripe dimensions or base model. I will check my restoration manual.

The 68 is 4 stripes, two thick two thin and the round marker is centered on the rearmost thick stripe. I dunno about there being two types of stripe? I thought it was an R/T, Scat pack thing only??

Sorry Alex, I thought you meant centre as in centre of the 4 (2 thick and 2 thin). You are right though, rear marker is centered in the rear thick stripe.

I have a book at home that reckons there were 2 types of BB stripe in 68. One was 2 thick stripes only and the other had the two pinstripes at the extremities. it says the "4stripe " one was RT only but doesnt show a picture of the non RT one anywhere. I was talking to Paul500 about this the other week. It was news to me as I had never heard of it before. :?

Thanks for that Clivey and Alex - I didnt realise it was the 4 stripe one so that is helpful. ive now dug out a pic of a white 68 RT with large red Dodge decals I took at the euro nats 2ALD397: dont know if that is a MMA car??There are some imperfections in the paint work on my charger towards the rear and I was wondering if the stripe would cover them. So if anyone can tell me the distance from the end of the boot lid and/or end of rear quarters to the back edge of the stripe that will help me decide what course Im going to take. Many thanks again

Try and get in touch with Hugh Potter (DragOn / MoparmanUK). I am pretty sure he made a BB stripe up for a 68 and was looking for someone to fit it to their car and give him feedback on quality etc.

I am sure I have seen fitting indstructions somewhere at home with all the dimensions. Just got so much to look through to find it.

Someone may go to their car with a tape measure for you first, but I will look anyway.
