360 block difference

Post by Noodles »

Hey guys. I had a stripped 360 engine from a mid 70s car but block was scrap. Ive found a 360 block from an 85 dodge ram. They look the same but are they the same? Can I use the parts.... heads, mounts, sump, timing gear from the 70s engine to build up the 85 block or will I need to use all mid 80s parts? It will all be bolted to a manual 3sp trans and dropped in a 74 roadrunner.
Thanx.

AMC 360 is nothing like a Mopar engine

The Mopar engine will have 360 I scripted on the side of the block below the cylinder head on one (both?) side. Same as your scrap block.
Just make sure you haven't been offerd a 318!
Inlet ports on 360 are noticeably bigger than a 318.

Yes

Forget Jeep / AMC or any such thing.

Also forget Magnum blocks from around 1990 ?? ish ... you can identify them by the timing cover / heads / water pump / sump ... you will get in a muddle fitting and swapping bits.

If I were you I would buy a complete up and running engine that you can see running ... either an LA or a MAGNUM with all ancillaries.
