Enuf rubber?

Post by MilesnMiles »

Not sure i have enough rubber up front. Currently running 195 x 14 x 65 profile. Whilst watching my mate put the car thru some turns today it did look like there was a lack of rubber involved.Anyone know what the standard Dart / Duster front rubber should be.

Can't remember offhand, probably a narrow 70 series, it would be taller and narrower than you are useing. Best to look out for a pair of 6"x 15" rims then you will get a better selection of tyres, a 205 50 series might work.

I do fancy some more width, problem is that I have a nice set of polished centrelines which with a 4" pcd would not be easy to replace!

What width are the wheels? If they've got 195s on at the mo, 205s would probably squeeze on 'em ok. If they're 6" wide it'll definately take 'em ok.

If i'm honest I can't remember  . I think 5 1'2" x 14". They came off Cliff Turners Dart and were wearing 185 x 80 profiles at much higher speeds than i'm using

put it this way, on a 6" rim 195s will look thin on the rim, on 5.5"s they will look 'bulgy'

Hm, they look OK, I guess when i've upgraded the torsion bars i'll be a little clearer on the handling requirements

If it is understeering you might need to increase spring rates at the rear if wider tyres does not work. Just a rear sway bar might do it if it hasn't got one.

I got 205 70 R14's all round on stock rims, dunno what they look like outside, it's real hard to drive when I'm not in the car!

On Daves point, it hasn't got a front sway bar, soa rear one without a front one could be nasty as i recall from a previous post. Which will help handling most
a) Front sway bar?
b) uprated torsion bars?
