Power steering pump

Post by drewcrane »

I have constantly had issues with these boxes over the years they leak, foam up or just fail like this one, It looks like they forgot to install the clips so the shaft wont just fall out I BOUGHT THIS LAST YEAR MAYBE 2 OR 3 K MILES ON IT AND THIS IS MY THIRD UNIT IN 2 YEARS.

Does anybody over there have this issue???

That's a late Saginaw unit

Across most forums the general consensis is that the federal unit is a better unit in terms of feel

It also mounts lower and looks prettier

If you do change you will need a new bracket there is no aftermarket Alu bracket available for the federal

Actually I have done both , and they both after just a few thousand miles seem to either leak or fail I have the factory brackets for both so I have done a bit of swapping to no avail, I will keep trying and maybe get lucky this time :banghead:

The reservoir seals on most rebuilt pumps are rubbish and just float in the groove. If you arent careful, they roll out as you push the saucepan on. I found a company locally who gave me a backup seal. It sits behind the round profile seal and takes up the gap. Seems to work...

Not had on leak from anywhere other than the reservoir (yet).

They do seem to be hit and miss.I bought a Thompson one by mistake as it looks almost identical to the TRW and had to modify the mounting brackets...
