wiper arm removal

Post by gmopar59 »

How do you remove these. I can see a small tab at the bottom of the arm. does this need to be prised away/up/down?

pull the small metal tab away from the wiper pivot with a bent screw driver.

place a cloth or bit of blanket on the plenum followed by a bit of flat wood or fiber board to spread the force

use something to pry it off whilst making sure you keep the socket of the wiper as in line with the pivot as physically possible. nice bit of dowel works well and doesn't scratch the wiper

if it all goes wrong the end of the pivot comes off inside the wiper socket as well

it then needs to be pressed then drilled and grub screwed/roll pinned loktited back on to the wiper pivot. but to do that involves taking the pivot out of the car from under the dash

but hopefully that won't happen

while they are off buy some wiper stem seals from shumacher and work some grease down the pivot
smear it onto the stub and melt it so it runs down with a soldering iron

or use good old 3 in 1 or engine oil. gloopy enough to stay put

68 dart wipers and chrome trim removed. One wiper was easy and one hard to shift. Put a blanket on the hood because it popped of into the air. Pic of the tab attached. Trim was pretty easy to remove. I used the forked tool to gently prise the trim and the hook tool to slide along and pull out the clip forward until the trim popped loose. Ther are 8 clips along the top, 9 along the bottom and 3 each side. Now have to replace the windscreen but might leave that till the new year.
