Small accident last night in the Jeep.

Post by Trigger_Andy »

Wife was driving me over to a buddies for a few beers when we where involved in an accident. Boy Racer smacked the Off-side rear door/quarter and spun the Jeep 110 degree's. Would have been much more had the Near-side rear not smacked into a Telegraph pole. Wife and Kid where badly shaken up. I'm just pee'd off the Jeeps a write off as I paid over the odd's for a clean, low mileage one. (50,000 miles for an 06)

Think we where lucky we where in such a big car otherwise it would have been much more serious than a few bumps and scratches.

You can see where the lad managed to snap the rear Axle at the Diff. :O

This was at our house in Scotland.

Turns out the Wife and my daughter have bad whiplash and my wife has a suspected broken knee cap. X-Ray is tomorrow.

Anyone any experience with insurance payouts? For example we are sure the other guy is to blame and the police said they will most likely charge him with reckless driving or something like that. My insurance initially said we would be held liable as we where leaving an exit, but since the other guy is in a modified car and is most likely to be charged they are going to review it. I know the other guys gonna contest it all the way. (Pikey who burned his school down a few years ago and is due in court next week on another charge)

Any idea how long these things can take to settle?

I don't quite see what happened, He obviously hit your off side as you were coming off an exit, so did your wife pull out on him?

Yes, thats kinda what happened.

Its a bad corner the house is on but there is a mirror so you can see round the corner a bit. It was dark and icy (-2) My wife waited a good while looking both ways and there was no indication of any cars coming, either in the mirror or on the road. We where either 95% or 100% on our side of the road by the time the lad came round the corner way way to fast, he had about 1/4 of his car on our side of the road. It was only his front wing that took the hit.

Not sure where we stand really? Will the police tell me if the other guy has been charged? There was a kind of witness who never actually witnessed the accident but was over-taken by the lad minutes before. They said he was driving like a crazy person, considering the road was covered in frost. The police said that will go in our favour.

how long is totally dependant on if you all agree who's fault it was.

the police and any assement of speed and road position they may have made, and the witness to previous loony drving will be key i'd guess.

glad you are all ok

So sorry to hear this and importantly nobody got (seriously) injured, still horrible, though.

I would imagine that unless the Police prosecute him and there is clear blame apportioned the insurance company's will go knock for knock - it keeps it easy and cheap for them.

Is he insured at all?

Hope it sorts out Ok.

I bet you are glad your nearest and dearest were in a big strong car.
