66/67 EL PowerPacks

Post by adrianp »

Hi,

I think there's at least one or two other 66/67 Charger owners lurking on this site so just a heads up that a few of the guys in the US have gotten together with RTE (www.rt-eng.com) and make some new EL PowerPacks. If you know the joys of owning one of these this is probably good news to you :)

They are asking ~$170.00 via PayPal and have done a first run of 10. I'm assuming there could be more if all 10 are sold.

There's a little more technical detail and payment info etc. if you're interested

Just out of curiosity, what's one of those then? Something to do with the headlight doors perhaps?

I'm still none the wiser. What "Electroluminescent material " do these chargers have?

Did someone go back in time and tread on a butterfly or something?

pulses high voltage in like an MSD or indeed a strip/tube flourecent light starter (the thing that makes em go Bink Bink bInK when they start up)

keeps the glowing bits glowy

something akin to strip lights in the dash rather than filament bulbs

both invented a long time ago just 1 easier to implement in a car than the other.....

rocket ships need soft glow lighting

As other have said on the '66 EL lighting was used for all the dash cluster, heating A/C controls, radio and shifter light.

Some of this was changed on the '67 to standard bulb lighting but the majority of it stayed EL.

It's a PITA to troubleshoot and the EL Powerpack is often the first thing to go.
