There was a company making a very nice billet cover which incorporated a thin stainless steel wear plate, I had one on the Dart. I don't think they are in buisness anymore, but I would think Trev could make one.

Thanks Blue, I did wonder if that was a potential fix.

I was concerned that a thin protective shim could pick up and damage / jam the pump, so it is interesting to know that one of this type was marketed..

The plate was around 2mm thick so I can't see that being an issue.

I would personally would make it out of 1/16" or 3/32" gauge plate. Gauge plate comes pre ground flat.

Not a necessity, but gauge plate can easily be hardened due to its carbon content. (heat cherry red & dip in oil, then temper to straw colour, easily done with a gas torch)

The 3/32" option would allow for a flick over with a grinder if there is some distortion after hardening.

1/16" Matl for non hardened option.

FYI - Hard anodised aluminium can achieve good wear properties. hard anodised aluminium will have the same hardness as nitrided steel

Cast iron, especially of the mehanite kind are also self lubricating, which helps with the wear properties
