Firm feel stg III steering box

Post by Raminduction »

Looking to improve the steering on my Charger and came across this revised box offered by a company called Firm feel......

http://www.firmfeel.com/b_body_mopar_po ... build.html

Have any of you lads tried one of these or can you recommend an upgrade to improve the steering control ?

I've spoke to 2 people who have fitted the Firm Feel box, they say it transformed the car. Much more positive, removes the 'vagueness' form the steering. I plan to fit one in the future.

i have had some bits from firm feel

they are nice polite boys and very helpful..

20:1 manual would work well
16:1 manual would be a shoulder workout in a b body when parking

dail in some positive castor

if you have power and swap to manual you will need the steering shaft extender.

manual box should be set for preload off the car

one of the sockets in your socket set if its a multipoint socket fits onto the spline of the box and allows you to use an inch LB torque wrench to set the box preload up

properly set up box should not feel vague.

tyhe mnaul has specifics but many use a process of x ftlb tighter than it was with no load. takes out lack of precision in this setting caused by drag from the seals

fill manual box with grease and 90 gear oil mix 50:50 use mopar multimilage lube if you have it, as the grease

I bought a firm feel box but didn't find it that much better so went to 20:1 ratio manual steering instead. That was much better. :thumbright:

Changing the coupler as well after checking through the forum. Ordered a replacement unit from hauser racing.
