Having wasted a lot of time and worry this weekend staring at gauges that were mostly lying to me... I'm going to replace them with something I can rely on.
Are Autometer THE gauges to have or, like a lot of stuff these days, crap being hawked on the strength of a once-good name? Or Smiths or Stack?
Recommendations please?

No-one will believe you...
Stewart Warner for me too, all metal construction and the new gauges still look the same good quality they have made for donkeys years. Cheap gauges are the work of the devil and totally pointless IMO.

I've used Sport comps in the past with no issues at all, they do look like a quality gauge. Sunpro is cheap plastic tat and I wouldn't fit those to a tot rod, and I suspect Moon gauges are made by them as well these days. I always prefer mechanical gauges over electrical ones for vital functions, I just don't trust the accuracy of the sender units. I also prefer the larger 2 5/8" diameter, easier to read and they look "right" in an American car.
