904 connection query?

Post by Dave81 »

Guys,
I've searched, looked in the workshop manual but still can't find confirmation online.

The feed and return for the cooler lines into the tranny.
Is the male threaded connection 1/8" NPT or 1/8" NPS?

Have any of you guys got photos of how you've connected/run braided line in this location?
It's an absolute pig to get to..........

1/8" to -6AN into 90 bend etc or something else?

I'm loosing my mind on this stuff! :help:

Lol

I'm on a 727

Yea it's 1/8 NPT

Firstly it's a tappered thread so use PTFE tape

You can use what ever you like as long as it fits

On my rear I used a 90* 1/8 NPT to -6 adaptor

On my front I used a 1/8npt 45* fitting that fits directly onto -6 hose

Yep, 1/8" NPT on the box. You can use -6 braided hose. Use straight -6 adaptors to get out of the box and 90 degree hose ends on your braided hose. Useing an additional 45 degree adaptor on the front connection before your hose end will give you enough adjustability to swerve around stuff in that tight space.

Cheers John,

I looked on FABO at around 30 different threads. This is where the confusion started about NPT or NPS. :thumbright:

Blue/Will......Much appreciated!

Question to you both.........How have you routed from box to front of car. Braided all the way, Steel tubing or a mixture of both?

Original Steel tubing mounts to side of bellhousing on mine. Then goes between the K member and engine right next to the Sump. Skirts the bottom pulleys and kinks to radiator.

Thinking that running flexible hose next to rotating mass (pulleys) is not ideal......Plus i'm not sure how the hell you could add a mount in this area?

Just wondering how have you run your lines?

My brain tells me that I need to get over to the driver side inner fender as soon as possible, so I can run mounts and the use 90 deg bends into the cooler.........Not sure if the addition of headers will make this more of an issue!?

Thanks again! :thumbright:

This what I done it may be wrong

Came out the oil cooler and bulk head fitting into engine bay.
Under radiator then turned onto inside of chassie rail. Down one side of steering box ( tight but it will fit)

So far everything is hard line stainless steel polish

I then fitted temp sender.

Then went to braided. Up high onto bulk head up over headers

The abit of flex onto box

Braided all the way. I follow the stock route along the side of the oil pan allowing enough clearance when it passes the pulleys. A couple of L shaped brackets mounted off an oil pan bolt with 2 holes drilled in it so you can pass a cable tie through to secure the hoses to it does the trick. I also run the hoses through some of that silver "turbo" heatproof sleeve where it's close to the exhaust.
I don't like to cross from transmission to inner wing because you will have to go above the exhaust and the lines will get hot, not good. Braided hose will soak up and retain heat, you have to consider that.
