My shox have leaked for a long time and the Southsea trip has finished 'em off really. A LOT of oil leaked out of one, and the other is seeping. The rods are damaged so I'm looking at replacing or rebuilding.
Are they rebuildable? Will Strange be helpful and sell me parts for old kit or will they be arsey and just try to sell me very expensive replacements?
Any ideas to avoid me spending $2000+ would be greatly appreciated
As they are an insert I don't know if Leda could match diameter and lenght. They used to offer rebuild service for there struts maybe they could rebuild yours???? http://www.leda.com
Look for motorcycle fork leg repairers they can remove the chrome and clean them up and re-plate them as good as new. I've had it done a few times. If you know the size of the seal I have a few people I use to get the odd seal.

I've stripped them down now and both rods need repair.
I spoke to Philpotts who seem to be the bikers favourite. There's another place called Dynasurf within driving distance, but I've no idea if they're any good. They all charge about £60 each rod which is ok. Philpotts have a turnaround of 'a few weeks' I couldn't get hold of Dynasurf, Friday afternoon innit...
The other issue is that there's a flange welded onto the rod. Hopefully they can work around that.
You could email Strange to see if there's a rebuild kit available. Alternatively talk to Hausers or Andy Robinson, they must come across this all the time.
They're not corroded Pete, they're damaged, what looks like pipe grip or vice marks.
I don't think stainless can be made smooth enough, the seals would rapidly wear. I think they have to be hardened steel with a hard chrome finish.
the fellas at strange have allways been very NICE when i have called or emailed. they take their reputation seriously and usually bend over backwards to keep you happy
