Another question please.
On my Torqueflite 727 transmission is a switch to inhibit starting in gear and that works fine. The switch has 3 pins and I understood the outer 2 to be for the reverse light.
I have found that my reverse light is on in reverse and drive/2/1 - not in neutral or park.
Is this a duff switch or a problem in the box?
Advice appreciated, thanks.

Another one for Duncan but I think there are 2 different switches and it sounds like yours is not lining up with the detent correctly.
I am certain it is not a box fault but may be the switch is not compatible. Some cars work the lights / inhibitor off micro switches on the shifter..........

I'm with Pete on this, early cars had a single terminal switch & a corresponding detent on the selector inside the transmission, later cars had the 3 pin switch with a double action detent. It sounds like you have the later switch on an early trans.
You can't have too much power, only a lack of traction!
Thanks for that. You could well be right. The box is stamped with a serial number along the pan flange but I do not know how to find the age. It is not the car's original box and could have come from anything.shovelheadrob wrote:I'm with Pete on this, early cars had a single terminal switch & a corresponding detent on the selector inside the transmission, later cars had the 3 pin switch with a double action detent. I was figuring on some way to arrange a push-to-contact switch on the selector lever setup. Can now put more thought into that. I will sort it

Thanks for the advices. Cheers.
