Crankshaft Bearings

Post by Glen63 »

Having finally made a start on replacing the crankshaft shell bearings on 1968 318ci

I have come across a problem, the rear set are not the same as the set that came in the new box, all the other bearings matched up fine. Just the rear one has the additional oil way and small bearing surface with a slot for oil way.

Was this design dropped or have I just got the wrong replacements ? Which would seem unusual as they came from WASP and he is normally right when supplying stuff.

Could be an anti leak bearing with that extra groove designed to keep the oil away from the rear seal hence anti leak, didn't think they still made them for sb though? Anyway it won't hurt to use, if in doubt call WASP.

Yes spoke to WASP and they said they are all like that now. I suppose because the manufacturer cannot be bothered to make tooling for one of the bearings only.
