69 Charger Fuel leak - Advice anyone??
Just got a brand new tank and sender unit....
The "O" gasket doesn't seem to be thick enough to seal the sender into the tank - therefore much seeping/dripping fuel.
I've had this on and off 3 times now... seems good when it's off and checks out ok. When I fit it back and drop £30 of fuel in, it leaks from the seal.
What am I doing wrong here?? Can anyone give me some advice??
Cheers!

If its just the thicknes thats the issue I would go to an industrial seal firm and get a thicker one. They are all over the place and will have something. What you have should work though.......
Secondly, are you putting the seal on first, then the sender unit and then the locking ring??? The locking ring should compress the sender onto the rubber seal....are you putting the locking ring in the right way round??
Cheers Steve

If all else fails, you could always give the tabs on the tank a gentle tap just to force the locking ring to compress the rubber seal a bit more. If its all on the correct way then It can only be the fact that the rubber seal is too thin compared to the original one or the tabs on the locking ring are distorted (they look fine in the pics)...cant think what else it could be

I've read on quite a few forums that the repro castellated locking ring/gaskets create a crap seal and leads to leaking.
I've got all new stuff to go on mine (inc tank)..........so will be interested to see what the fit is like on new vs old!

Hey Dave - suggest keeping the old locking ring !! Seems that was the only thing that was going to work for me.. Like you said, the new repro stuff just isn't the best quality or even the same thickness of metal.Dave81 wrote:I've read on quite a few forums that the repro castellated locking ring/gaskets create a crap seal and leads to leaking.

Yes mate. That was the common theme. New sender, tank and gaskets are good but the original ring is slightly thicker and gets a better seal.........go figure! You would have thought it would have been identical!Sean wrote:Hey Dave - suggest keeping the old locking ring !! Seems that was the only thing that was going to work for me..
